Benefits of Joining C.A.F.E. Iowa CAN

 

1. Receive current information on tobacco research and legislative actions. C.A.F.E. IOWA CAN provides fact sheets, position statements, and talking points, every thing you need to educate your lawmakers, the news media, and others on the issue.

 

2. Create a Legislative Agenda. C.A.F.E. IOWA CAN has written and tested language to for legislative bills. We monitor all current legislation on tobacco control being opposed, supported, or amended at the Federal, State, and local level.

 

3. Grassroots mobilization - C.A.F.E. IOWA CAN will let you know when it is time to write, call, or contact your legislators. You will be informed when legislative forums are being held in your community.

4. Legislative Updates – C.A.F.E. IOWA CAN will send a legislative update via e-mail monthly and weekly during the legislative session. C.A.F.E. IOWA CAN will let you know how your legislator voted on local tobacco control and other tobacco control issues.

 

5. Training and Technical Assistance - C.A.F.E. IOWA CAN offer technical advice to help you start a local C.A.F.E. coalition in your community, organize a membership drive, or conduct a community forum. We can provide news media training, spokesperson training, and coalition building workshops.

 

6. Legislative Events – Legislative events provide members with training and an opportunity to meet your legislators at the State Capitol. Watch the website for details or e-mail cafe@cafeiowacan.org.

 

7. Framing the question. Message development is essential to getting what you want. C.A.F.E. IOWA CAN has developed and tested the message and talking points so you will never be at a loss to communicate effectively to the media and lawmakers.
