REASONS TO JOIN C.A.F.E. IOWA CAN

 
1. Thanks to the tobacco tax and the Iowa’s smokefree law, Iowa now has the second lowest smoking rate in the country (14%). But if we stop fighting the tobacco company the smoking rate will increase.

2. In spite of the fact that the overall smoking rate for Iowa has dropped to 14%, In Iowa, 18.9 percent of high school students smoke, and 3,500 more kids become regular smokers every year.

3.  Each year, tobacco claims 4,400 lives and costs the state $1 billion in health care bills.

4. 99% of workers in Iowa are protected from the health effects of secondhand smoke, but there is one group of workers still being exposed.  Join us to help remove the exemption for casinos.

4. Eighty percent of smokers say they want to quit.  Helping them quit by providing funding for the Quitline and access to cessation will not only save lives it will save money.

 

5. Taxpayers spend $8.04 on healthcare costs for each pack of cigarettes sold, your membership can help reduce and eliminate this cost and burden to the public.

6. The tobacco companies spend $174.2 million a year to market their products in Iowa. This is 16 times what the state spends on tobacco prevention.

7. C.A.F.E. Iowa CAN is leading the charge to protect the health of all Iowans by advocating for effective tobacco control policies.
